You’ve heard it before: Happy wife, happy life. It goes both ways: Happy house, happy spouse. Ten little things can make a big difference for a cheerful home.

Make the Bed Every Morning

It’s really a simple core that takes two minutes but what a great to start your day. We know we love that feeling when my wife and I first slide into bed at the end of a busy day and coverings simple settle down on top of us as we nestle in. What a great way to end the day. A great ending starts with a simple home chore at the start. Make this a habit.

Wash the dishes after Every Meal or At Least before Bed

Tackle this one together and it gets done quicker. Besides, you really don’t want to walk into the kitchen the next morning with dirty dishes on the counter or in the sink.

No Devices at the Table

Social media and bright device screens are family conversation killers. The bright lights at the table are a distraction and really are hard to ignore, especially when another cat video post announcement hits the web. It will all wait, keep them away.

Clean Bathroom and Kitchen Surfaces Immediately

Once things like food, toothpaste or shaving cream dry on a surface, it’s much harder to clean. Hard food particles and dried toothpaste look really bad and sloppy. Besides, you never know when guests are stopping by your home to say “Hi” and will use the bathroom.

Keep the Toilet Seat Down When Not in Use

It’s the little things that help: keeping the wife happy and keeping the next person from falling in during a midnight visit. Ask me how I know. Besides, with the seat down it somehow makes the bathroom look a bit more pulled together in its design and furnishings.

Fill the Hamper Not the Floor

Dirty stuff goes into the hamper. As you already know, piles of dirty clothes around the home can create chaos. Put a hamper in the bed room within tossing distance of the bed. Then, when you get ready for bed, you are less keen on the floor drop versus tossing into the hamper.

Let the Light In

Open the curtains or blinds to let natural light in, It is well known that natural light can provide a boost of energy and sets the mind right to start your day. And, of course, it brightens the home.

Look in the Right Places before Your Ask Where Things Are

Have you looked in all the logical places before asking where something is? The kids will drive you crazy with this one. Did they even look?

Fill Up What Your Empty

Used the last of the toilet paper? Be kind and put on the new roll. Prevent the next person from getting aggravated during their trip to the bathroom. Or I quickly need a tissue for my nose or a paper towel for that spill.

Keep the Shopping List Up To Date

When you run out of something or use the last of it, write on the shopping list and keep the list up to date. We use an antique chalk board hanging in our kitchen. As something gets empty it goes onto the list. Now, we just have to remember to transfer that list on the board to the one we carry to the store. There’s been few times when we ask on another why we didn’t get this or that item. It can no longer be said that “it wasn’t on the list”.
